Old Posts Removed

I removed some old posts today somewhat reluctantly. Gone are all of the posts about Tangerine’s struggle to keep the Foothills of Mount Dora from happening due to malicious back links some internet shyster made from my posts to a Naples area real estate agent as well as some FRS retirement posts.

This was done so I could avoid combing through the thousands of comments left on the site since 2009. Nothing on Jeff Norton was deleted but the titles of the tabs were changed. I am sorry for any inconvenience this causes Jeff’s friends.

I find it hard to believe that my little Tangerine page could wreck a guy’s Google ranking all by itself. I think a little shady SEO, perhaps long forgotten, had a hand in it. And I’ll bet Mr. Real Estate Person has a lot of other sites to contact. After all, any website with a lot of hyphens must have been set up that way to optimize Google ranking in the first place. Then Google changed the rules and he contacted me. The site address is http://www.xxxxxx-Fl-Real-Estate.com. So what do you think?

Note to Mr. Real Estate Person: there is another way to do this without getting me involved. Please remove any I’ve missed yourself using this information from Google.  A thank you for my efforts will be appreciated. If you choose to comment please don’t back link your comments though : )

As always,

Spring is coming!

To my Tangerine Readers

As you know, I have been covering the murder trial of Thomas Lafoe for killing Jeff Norton in 2010. Jeff was a dear friend and I have been intimately connected to the case from the beginning when Steve and Rosemary found him bludgeoned to death. Here in Tangerine, I was on the phone with Steve when the first responders arrived on the scene. I attended the trial from jury selection to conclusion.

I am a blogger and it’s natural I keep the posts on one of my primary blogs. In the coming days, this blog will revert to the usual  Tangerine, Florida news on lost dogs and such. For the next few days, I’ll be sharing posts on the case. Please indulge me.

Thank you for your patience in this matter.

Happy New Year!

There’s something about a new year. It’s fresh with promise, new beginnings, a chance to start over if you will. I’m hoping for better times for all of us. Growth is no longer an issue but no one can sell a house either. Anyone can tell you that’s not good. I think we’ll see a gradual improvement in the economy this year.

For my first post of 2012, I’d like to thank my loyal readers and supporters. You are a diverse group. Some want news of the area in general, others are looking for specific information. Some are hoping to learn about leads in the Spencer McAlister murder. Others are following the trial of Thomas J. Lafoe for the murder of Jeff Norton. Many are reading to keep up with crimewatch warnings in Tangerine.

As always, articles are posted as news comes in. Don’t be shy- if you’re looking for something not posted then make a comment on a post and I’ll see it when I check in.

Wishing all of you the best of 2012,

Tangerine Blog

Before the Shoot

It’s 9:43 am. The craft services crew is cooking up some tasty smelling lunch. The jet ski just arrived. More slamming doors and people showing up for the 10 am call time. It’s the quiet before the storm. XXXX’s beer is the biggest excitement Tangerine has seen in a long time.

LOLHA is having its annual meeting on November 16, 2011 at 7 pm at Johnston Hall {Tangerine Improvement Society building.} Orange County’s Department of Environmental Protection will be on hand to answer specific questions regarding the lake. Please mail questions to the president [or leave a comment here and they will be forwarded to her] to help organize the questions in advance ASAP.

Steve Millich will be the spokesman for LOLHA during the meeting. The purpose of submitting questions in advance will allow OCEPD time to prepare their responses.

Members wishing to save a stamp may bring their $50 check payable to LOLHA to the meeting. If you’ve changed your address in the last year, you may notify them of your new address then also.

The Lake Ola Boat Parade will held on Saturday December 10, 2011. Boat’s will gather at Hurlburt’s Cove just before dusk. Contact LOLHA if you have questions or want to bring your boat.

More Stuff to Do!

There’s a new shop in Mount Dora called High Falootin’ Mercantile. They sell the type of charming vintage and antique goods that keep people coming here during the cold months up north. Located at 121 N. Highland St. Mount Dora, FL 32757, they are right up the street from us. At this time, they are open on weekends, so if you can’t make it today, maybe you can get there next week. When you visit, tell them that the Tangerine, Florida blog sent you. xoxo

An Accident Waiting to Happen

I don’t know who sets the timing on the traffic lights on 441 in Tangerine, but I have a bone to pick with him or her about the traffic light at the intersection of US 441 and the entrance to Stoneybrook Hills.

Simply put, the duration of the  yellow light of the traffic signal is simply too short. This intersection is located in a hollow of sorts and traffic approaching in both directions is gaining momentum as it heads into the “bowl” at the bottom. Picture drivers barreling downhill [particularly those headed to Mount Dora] with other drivers on their tails suddenly confronted with a yellow light that flashes to red very quickly. They have  an instantaneous decision to make: either screech to a stop or run the light.

A driver with a car following closely will most likely be tempted to run the light. I know I have been, although I managed to stop without being rear-ended. With the light being so close to the county line, few cops hang out there, so getting a ticket isn’t much of a deterrent. We know a car pulling out of Stoneybrook Hills that is hit by a car traveling 55 mph will certainly end up being the loser in a crash.

So get busy, Stoneybrook Hills residents and let us know if you feel this intersection is dangerous. In my opinion, a serious accident occurring at this intersection is simply a matter of time.
